The treatment

To begin with, I will take a medical history to carefully assess your current state of health. The treatment itself will involve applying pressure to all reflex areas, giving particular attention to any problem areas.

I will adapt the amount of pressure according to your needs and preference, and the treatment should feel pleasant and comfortable.

Occasionally, there might be some areas which may feel tender or sore to you. Reflexologists believe that this is a sign that the relevant organ or part of the body is not in balance. I will give those areas more special attention.

A session will last one hour, beginning and ending with a gentle, relaxing foot massage. Allow about twenty minutes longer for the first appointment.

Post treatment

Even though reflexology is a gentle treatment, it can have a quite powerful effect. Occasionally, symptoms may temporarily become worse after a treatment. This is what is known as a ‘healing crisis’.

As your body responds to a treatment it rids itself of toxins and impurities, which may cause you to temporarily feel tired and sluggish. For example, you might find that your sinuses are feeling more blocked before they start draining. By contrast, you may immediately experience an increased sense of well being and relaxation, an improvement in mood, vitality and sleep pattern.

How to maximize the benefits of your treatment

Try not to have any heavy meals before and after a treatment and avoid alcohol and coffee, if possible. It is advisable to drink plenty of water after a treatment, which will help your body to get rid of any toxins. Ideally, it is also good to have a rest. This will allow your body to respond better to healing.
